‘Abstract Florals’ at the Baker Collection
The Baker Collection is home to Australian artists Nicole Baker and Jessica Skye Baker.
Artist Nicole Baker
Nicole is renowned for her abstract acrylic, ink, and oil pastel mixed media pieces on large scale canvases. Her love of street art is a major influence on her artwork, and you will often find graffiti-style strokes combined with heavily textured drawn and painterly marks within her compositions.
She has a great love for Sumi art. The thought process behind any of her work figures not so much on the subject, but the energy the subject inhibits. Nicole is a genuine mark maker, and she forms her colour palette and creations with a well thought out yet naturally instantaneous style.
Artist Jessica Skye Baker
Artist Jessica Skye Baker has demonstrated through countless successful sales and commissions – both nationally and internationally – that her work offers something unique in the art world. Jessica gravitated towards resin abstract as a means of artistic expression. She creates vivid blasts of colour and composition on large scale panels and canvases with intuitive flair.
Ready to make your home stand out from the crowd and mark your territory? Artists Nicole Baker and Jessica Skye Baker will help you on your journey to create a home that is uniquely your own statement.
Together, Nicole and Jessica share a love of art and fashion and see the two instinctively going hand in hand. Their signature art integrates seamlessly to turn a room into a focal point.
‘Abstract Florals’ is a series of Australian floral-inspired pieces. Each collaborative piece has been signed ‘BAKER’ to indicate the participation of both Nicole and Jessica; each draw upon their own finely honed artistic signature styles.
‘Abstract Florals’ is the very definition of cohesive art. Gum nuts, poppies, and proteas are painted on large scale stretched canvases using fluid and structured acrylics, alcohol inks, spray paint, and Sumi ink, with the occasional use of resin. Each piece represents a bold and striking colour palette that will instantly transform your room when you display it.
Their ‘Abstract Florals’ range is modern, stylised, and on point. Anyone of these exceptional pieces will add a high-end interior finish to a room.
How Was the ‘Abstract Florals’ Collection Created?
Canvases were soaked to create a wet on wet effect. A combination of acrylic and alcohol inks were applied to create a base. Acrylic paints were then applied heavily with a palette knife to create depth, form, and shape. Over this, a layer of spray paint was applied with bold, confident strokes.
With the Protea range, final layers were created with a fine rigger paintbrush and Sumi ink. This technique adds delicate detail, and brings cohesion and tension to the finished piece. The final touches for ‘Poppies’ include pigment powder and relief pen applications. On a selected few pieces, a blue-based resin was applied to create a high gloss finish.
