Nicki Comelli’s pop art original paintings for sale
Since her teenage days, Nicki has gravitated towards graphically designed fonts and photography. She began studying fine arts with a major in photography and printing and then furthered her studies in digital-mediated art; this is where her artistic pursuits for pop art began; she admired and drew upon the works of pop artist Andy Warhol throughout this time.
While studying for her fine arts degree, her lecturers encouraged her to pursue painting.
A love for graphics, photography, printing and painting combined
Years later, her abstract pop art series was born.
Her appreciation for street art and surrealism also guided her to create her now unique signature style.

Nicki is working on a series of mini pop art paintings 20 x 20 inches – uniquely Australian foods.

“To me, this painting is a supermodel on the catwalk. It confidently demands to be looked at when you enter the room,” Artist Nicki Comelli said.

I let intense overlapping colours, drawn marks, and bold strokes flow on the canvas. I often revisit the artwork I create weeks, months, or sometimes even years later and re-work them.
“When I look at my finished works of art, they give off the same vibe as when I was painting them. I love what I do. I love unique fashion and art, which coincide naturally in my life. Creating a show-stopping painting is just as important as the latest fashion accessories,” said Nicki Comelli.

Flowers
‘These are Not Flowers’ has been influenced by Nicki’s sister, Jessica Baker, and her collection of Street Flowers. Jessica’s signature style rectangle pot has been re-created in Nicki’s oil paintings and combined with her love of the prominent colour black, free-form organic shapes and geometric blocks. To make this collection very much her own, she has also drawn upon her passion for:

She has signified ‘everything is possible’ by portraying a bee. A bee is hand-painted on each of the ‘These are not flowers’ artworks.

Nests
Nicki is currently working on a limited edition series of nests and the idea of coming into being through life. A collector familiar with her work would instantly recognise these pieces as hers – painted with a flat mat background, graffiti mark making and organic oil stick line work.

Nicki Comelli is a prolific Australian painter who lives in Victoria, Australia. She is stylistically rooted in abstract, pop art and surrealism. Nicki’s art is playful and serious, a quality she shares with artists Andy Warhol and René Magritte. Her artwork is also primarily influenced by her dad – Steve Baker’s paintings and his admiration for Salvador Dali, which she grew up around.
