Love Story, from the ‘Rudie Nudie’ Baker Collection

The Baker Collection and Love Story

A

rtists Nicole Baker and Jessica Skye Baker have combined forces for another unique and sassy collaboration— the ‘Rudie Nudie’ collection. Here’s your chance to own a cheeky and raw original from the Baker Collection in the classic tradition of life drawing. Each ‘Rudie Nudie’ piece flows elegantly with earthy hand drawn strokes.

Lovers of the richness and subtlety of graphite and the bold, grittiness of charcoal will adore the ‘Rudie Nudie’ collection. Every captivating sketch is a one-off, and no reproductions will be made. All works are completed on high quality 600gsm Italian cotton rag.

Coming from a rich creative heritage and heavily inspired by their father, artist Steven Baker, the Baker sisters have been painting together for decades. Between them they have sold hundreds of original artworks.

The artists’ distinctive styles combined within the Baker Collection

This new collaboration sees both artists working simultaneously to create each original unique work. The combined interplay is a genuine and free expression—an intertwining of each artist’s distinctive and complementary style. All the resulting ‘Rudie Nudie’ pieces share a bold and uninhibited character.

Working in charcoal and graphite offers the chance for both artists to create in a faster and more paired-back fashion than they typically do. This stands in contrast to the signature medium of Nicole’s acrylics and oils, or Jessica’s resin works. These figurative sketches are also in contrast to the artists’ abstract signature works.

You can see however, that the lightness of their expressive abstract styles is certainly not lost, and shines through in these figurative works.

For the Baker sisters, the sketches are not about capturing a realistic portrayal of the human form. There is space in the pieces for the viewer to add their own vision and complete the story of the work—of the mood and character of the figure.

Ever spontaneous and concerned with the variety and complexity of mark-making, the artists have created elegant and eloquent works. Take a look at Love Story and you can see the expressive pleasure of simple linework, tones, and textures. It is a warm, mysterious and endlessly appealing piece to look at.

The feeling and energy the artists have in the moment of sketching has been transferred visually to the paper. There is at once an economy of line and a joyful cacophony of excess. The heads of the nudes are a swirl and symphony of curving and looping strokes. The collection exudes confidence and richness.

Love Story has been placed in a refined black shadow box frame. It will sit beautifully in a bedroom above a modern bedhead, in a hallway or landing area. Consider placing it centre-stage in a walk-in wardrobe. Original artwork never fails to add character and personality to a space.

The work of three minds

A third mind is also present in this collection’s creation—a formative hand, and inspiration. Artist and father Steven Baker now suffers from macular degeneration and finds it difficult to bring two lines together in his own drawings. This classic series of works with eternal appeal has been completed in his honour.

Straight from the Baker family mind, and signed with the ‘Baker’ signature, the ‘Rudie Nudies’ offer the collector a chance to own an original which speaks strongly of the love of art and family. They are delicate pieces designed to bring harmony and a soft presence to a room.

Original artwork never fails to add character and personality to a space.
