Artist Steve Baker the 60’s

Artist Steve Baker, The Baker Collection, Magic Market Geelong

Steve’s interest in art began in the ‘60’s he was and still is a laid-back surfing hippie he is known for his bright quirky shirts. Art was a subject that he had great passion for. Although a career in art was sidelined it did not prevent him from participating in various artistic and creative pursuits.

The ‘70’s was a particularly creative time for Steve, as he opened a stall in the Magic Market which was located in Little Malop Street – He would turn his hand to many different things: making beanbags, wood sculpting, leather work and, of course, painting. To this day, part of a lunar landscape mural that Steve painted still survives on the side wall of the old Magic Market.

The 60’s.
